The Table Mountain Cableway hosted a record-breaking 855 000 visitors in the past financial year, and was awarded SANParks’ Cape Regional Business Partner of the Year Award.
Sabine Lehmann, managing director of the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company, attributes the record number of visitors to Table Mountain being named one of the New7Wonders of Nature in December 2012, following a worldwide voting campaign.
“The accolade has generated enormous interest not only from international visitors, but also domestic travellers who have made use of the many special offers aimed at locals,” Lehmann says.
SANParks Cape Region general manager Gary de Kock says the Cableway is a deserving winner of the SANParks Cape Regional Business Partner of the Year Award for the professional manner in which the enterprise is run.
“We chose Table Mountain Cableway as our Business Partner of the Year for their innovation in improving standards in environmental and tourism management. The Cableway is passionate about conserving Table Mountain’s biodiversity and over the years have set new levels in reducing their impact on mountain ecology, while managing in excess of 855 000 visitors per annum.”
The Cableway opened in 1929 and the previous highest number of annual visitors was recorded in 2007, South Africa’s biggest tourism year to date.
The Cableway operates weather permitting. We are closed until August 26, weather permitting, for annual maintenance.
