Table Mountain Cableway shortlisted for African Responsible Tourism Awards 2015

It’s official! Table Mountain Aerial Cableway has been shortlisted for the prestigious 2015 African Responsible Tourism Awards.

We’re shortlisted for the 2015 African Responsible Tourism Awards

Following a lengthy entry process, we’ve been nominated in the Best for Resource Management category, for our commitment to reducing and managing our water and energy consumption and our waste levels through innovative activities.

Our resource management initiatives, including our push-button taps, our increased number of recycling bins, our soda fountains that help reduce the amount of glass and cans used, and our energy-saving measures, have earned us kudos before, including being named the overall winner of the 2011 Imvelo Responsible Tourism Awards.

The winners of the African Responsible Tourism Awards 2015 will be announced at a glamourous ceremony at the World Travel Market Africa (WTM Africa) show at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on Thursday 16 April 2015, and we’re incredibly excited!

Competition for the awards is fierce, with several businesses dedicated to responsible tourism in South Africa, including the Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary, the shark cage-diving operator Marine Dynamics and the luxurious Grootbos Private Nature Reserve, competing for top honours.

Says Collette van Aswegen, marketing manager at the Cableway: "To be shortlisted for this award is an honour for the Cableway, as responsible tourism is at the heart of what we do. We wish our fellow nominees good luck and look forward to seeing everyone at the ceremony."

The awards ceremony is part of the responsible tourism programme at WTM Africa, which kicks off with the 11th International Conference on Responsible Tourism in Destinations on 14 and 15 April, and will have 18 speakers from Europe, India and Africa.

Looking forward to the ceremony is Tim Harris, chief executive officer of Wesgro: “We would like to congratulate all those selected by the judges for the African Responsible Tourism Awards shortlist this year. These forward-thinking and innovative organisations are true examples of how we can take the tourism industry to new heights in a sustainable and attractive manner. We look forward to the awards ceremony on 16 April at World Travel Market Africa, where we will celebrate the winners in person."
