The International Association for Impact Assessment, South Africa, (IAIAsa) presented their awards at their annual conference in August, held at Thaba’Nchu, in the Free State. The Cableway sponsors a cash prize for the Best “Young Person”” Paper Award.
The award went to the paper on “Social and Environmental Justice in Environmental decision making in South Durban: The proposed Wolraad Park substation”, by Ryan Edwards, Kerry Philp and Diane Scott of the School of Environmental Sciences (SES), University of KwaZulu-Natal.
Also sponsored by Table Mountain Cableway, was a floating trophy for The Premium Award for Excellence in Environmental Management in Project Execution in South Africa, awarded to Acer (Africa).
The IAIA’s mission is to advance innovation, development and dissemination of best practice in environmental impact assessment, management and policy throughout the world. IAIA promotes ecologically sustainable and equitable development and is committed to environmental justice and the preservation of human rights. The objective of the awards is to recognize excellence in South Africa for those activities which are developed, planned and managed for the benefit of the sustainability of human society and the environment on which we all depend.
