The Sunset Special is back! Cable car rides are only half-price after 6pm, every day until 28 February 2015.
That means adults pay just R112.50 for a return ticket, and kids aged 4 to 17 only R55. Kids under four ride free.
These tickets are only available at the ticket office (not online) from 6pm onwards.
The sun sets around 8pm at the moment, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the summit of our New7Wonder of Nature. Check our opening hours for the cable car schedule for January and February, and our quick tips page for other useful things to know before you go.
To spread the word about our #SunsetSpecial, we are running a competition where one lucky winner and their partner will be treated to a romantic trip to the summit, complete with cable car tickets, a picnic basket of delicious treats, a bottle of sparkling wine and a hamper of Cableway goodies, to the value of R1 500.
To enter, we want you to write us a poem about Table Mountain!
You can be as creative as you like – make it a haiku, a limerick, freeverse or whatever form you like. Whatever it is, show us your love for Table Mountain.
Here are some things you might like to mention, for extra brownie points:
For added inspiration, here are two famous poems about mountains, to get the creative juices flowing ...
Purples of Ages – pause for you –
Sunset – reviews her Sapphire Regiment –
Day – drops you her Red Adieu!
Still – Clad in your Mail of ices –
Thigh of Granite – and thew – of Steel –
Heedless – alike – of pomp – or parting
I'm kneeling – still –
You ask me why I dwell in the green mountain;
I smile and make no reply for my heart is free of care.
As the peach-blossom flows down stream and is gone into the unknown,
I have a world apart that is not among men.
Think you can do better? Send your entries to us via firstname.lastname@example.org, post them on Facebook, tag us on Instagram, and if they are short enough, tweet them to us. Handwritten submissions can be handed in to the reception desk at the Lower Cable Station.
The competition closes at midday on Monday 9 February 2015.
