South Africans, especially Capetonians, are among the luckiest people in the world, with an official New7Wonder of Nature, Table Mountain, a national park within city limits, and two World Heritage Sites on its doorstep: the Cape Floral Region (which includes Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden and Cape Point) and Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years.

The Cape Floral Region is a stretch of land and sea spanning 90 000 square kilometres, and is one of the richest plant kingdoms in the world. The city has a wide range of attractions, and Table Mountain Aerial Cableway is one of the world’s top visitor experiences.

Here are some excellent opportunities for locals to take advantage of throughout the year. Check the Specials section for more specials.

1. Celebrate your birthday on the top of Table Mountain

The Cableway gives one free adult return ticket to South Africans, over the age of 18, with a valid South African ID, on the day of their birthday. This special aims to ensure that everyone can enjoy at least one day of the year on top of our beautiful mountain. This offer is only valid on the day of your birthday, cannot be redeemed on any other day and is valid for 7 days from the date of issue. Should the Cableway be closed, you can still come to our ticket office on the day of your birthday and produce your ID, and we’ll issue you with a ticket that is valid for 7 days. This ticket is not extendable if not used within the 7 days.

2. Senior citizens

South African senior citizens over the age of 60 years qualify for discounted rates on return tickets every Friday, upon producing a valid South African ID.

3. Cable Card

The Cable Card, providing you with access to Table Mountain all year round, is your must-have passport to a host of happy memories. Become a tourist in your own city, and experience the best of what the Cableway has to offer.

Children will be enchanted with the mountain and all it has to offer. Children will be enchanted with the mountain and all it has to offer.
