Table Mountain Cableway is back in action as of Monday, 10 August, weather permitting, following a two-week shut down for scheduled annual maintenance.

The scheduled maintenance included a haul rope change, the cleaning of the ropes and slack rope tests, switch and bearings renewal, servicing of the main gearbox, generators and backup generators, as well as general electronic component changes and control checks. Maintenance is completed annually in order to meet the highest global cableway standards set by the Swiss Governing Body for Cableways (BAV).

The cable cars also got a new look, thanks to VISA’s #NotATourist campaign. The design on the exterior of the cable car features Table Mountain’s ascending contour lines and hiking trails, to encourage visitors to see the mountain from a new perspective.

Remember, if you celebrated your birthday over the maintenance period, your complimentary ticket can be redeemed until 17 August. Don’t forget to bring your South African ID to the ticket office.

Visitors can also take advantage of the Kidz Season special, which offers two children under 18 years a free return trip if they are accompanied by a full paying adult (valid over weekends, public and school holidays until 31 October).

The Cableway operates weather permitting. Visit our homepage or call (021) 424 8181 for more information.
