Cableway’s Shop at the Top introduces reusable shopping bag, in time for festive season!
It's been a busy eco-friendly year at the Cableway - we danced for rain with the #CTRainDanceChallenge, maintained our Carbon Neutral status by highlighting our contribution to housing in Khayelitsha and supported local businesses with a special supplier course.
The new reusable shopping bag is a great addition to our cause and we've chatted to Rianda Williams, our Cableway Sales and Merchandising Manager about it:
You’ve introduced reusable bags at the Cableway’s retail outlets. Why is this?
"This forms part of our environmentally friendly drive. Plastic was phased out in 2008. Since then we’ve only used paper bags."
Can you tell us a bit more about this particular bag and why you’ve chosen this particular style and material?
"We chose this bag because it’s made of non-woven and environmentally friendly, recycled materials."
The Cableway proudly supports local suppliers. Please tell us more about the bag supplier.
"Bagazio Bags is located in Stikland (Bellville). Not only do we support local South African suppliers, but we also give preference to suppliers in the Western Cape as this further reduces the negative effects on the environment."
Reusable bags are traditionally issued by big stores like Pick n Pay and Woolworths who are guaranteed return shoppers. Are you hoping by supplying visitors with these bags that they will return to the Cableway and its retail outlets too?
"We would love for them to return but if they don’t, we hope that when they re-use our bags, it will be a reminder of the lovely time they had on the mountain."
Finally, with the festive season upon us, which Christmas stocking fillers would you recommend visitors get at the Cableway?
"We offer an extensive range of gifts for all ages and all price points. Ranging from unique jewellery items for that special person in your life to books, homeware, clothing, artisan sweets and chocolates, and handmade Christmas decorations."
