Radisson RED Hotel to host inaugural World Koesister Day

The Radisson RED Hotel in the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town, will launch World Koesister Day on Sunday 1 September 2019.

At the Cableway, we lead the charge on National Milk Tart Day celebrations ... now, our tourism peer, the Radisson RED Hotel in Cape Town, will launch the inaugural World Koesister Day on Sunday 1 September 2019!

The innovative hotel team, in association with local apparel and accessories brand Vannie Kaap, invites Capetonians far and wide to enter their secret-recipe Cape Malay koesisters to be judged by Kfm radio presenter Saskia Falken, Vannie Kaap co-owner Marc Jacobs, and Radisson RED’s kitchen lead, Naseer Abdullah, at the hotel this weekend.

The baker of the winning koesister will walk away with a grand prize worth R12 000, as well as the title of Kwaiest Koesister.

The koesister competition details are as follows:

  • Date: Sunday 1 September 2019
  • Venue: Radisson RED Hotel, Silo 6, Silo Square, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town
  • Entrants should arrive no later than 8.30am
  • Judging will start at 9.30am
  • The winner will be announced live on the #KfmSundaze show with Saskia Falken at 9.45am

The baker of the winning koesister will not only get the inaugural title of Kwaiest Koesister and the grand prize, chef Naseer has also pledged to buy fresh koesisters from the winner to serve in the OUIBar + KTCHN at the hotel every Sunday morning between 10am and noon. “The humble koesister has everything needed to bring about world peace … so why not spread a little love where we can?” he says.

“For the first time in human and culinary history, there will be an annual world day dedicated to the pure and unadulterated adoration of the spicy yet sweet Cape Malay koesister,” exclaims Vannie Kaap’s Jacobs. 

On 1 September, the Radisson RED will also introduce the Cape Town Corner, a specialty menu of five Cape Malay-inspired dishes that will have locals as well as international guests begging for more. “Think bobotie, briyani and masala steak … Need I say more?”
