Rib-sticking meals to get you through the day
Blue sky, bright sun and crystal-clear air make for a perfect winter’s day in Cape Town, and one of the best places to experience this is from the top of Table Mountain – preferably at the Table Mountain Café.
Until 15 September 2014, the Table Mountain Café is offering an Early Bird Special between 8.30am and 9am.
So skip your normal breakfast and be first in line for the cable car. When you get to the top, make your way straight to the café.
For R20 you can feast on smoked beef brisket, two eggs (scrambled or fried), a slice of tomato, chicken sausage and a slice of toast.
Or, if you are hankering for a uniquely South African eating experience, then order our Vetkoek and Beer Combo.
Vetkoek, deep-fried bread dough, can be filled with just about anything – in this case, curried mince, an all-time South African favourite.
We serve the vetkoek with a green salad and draught beer (choose between Castle Lager, Castle Lite or Peroni). The Vetkoek and Beer Combo costs R82 and is available until 30 June 2014.
During the winter season the first cable car goes up at 8.30am; the last trip up is at 5pm and the last trip down at 6pm.
The Table Mountain Café operates between 8.30am and 5.30pm from 1 May to 15 September. The kitchen closes an hour before the last car down, and the café closes half an hour before the last car down.
