Table Mountain celebrates 7 Wonders Day
Today is special – it’s 7 Wonders Day!
Table Mountain, alongside its fellow New7Wonders of Nature (the Amazon, South America; Halong Bay, Vietnam; Iguazú Falls, Argentina and Brazil; Jeju island, South Korea; Komodo, Indonesia; and Puerto Princesa underground river, Philippines), celebrate 7 Wonders Day every year on 7 July.
It feels like yesterday, but nine years ago, the Cableway, in partnership with the City of Cape Town and South African National Parks, rejoiced as years of campaigning via Mxit (remember that?), videos featuring Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu and Freshlyground, media coverage and SMSs led to Table Mountain being named a New7Wonder of Nature.
Our official inauguration in 2012 took place with great fanfare as the entire city celebrated this wonderful accolade. See the video below:
The Covid-19 pandemic has had a devastating impact on global travel, but we want you, our valued visitors, to know that our natural wonder is waiting for you. We will get through this uncertain time together and look forward to seeing you again soon.
