World record broken on Table Mountain
Congratulations to everybody who participated in the weekend’s K-Way Platteklip Charity Challenge. The event was a great success and raised R650 000 for charity!
The Cableway was proud to be a partner for such a good cause – 90% of the money raised will go towards Sinenjongo High School in Joe Slovo, near Milnerton, and another 10% will go towards Wilderness Search & Rescue: Western Cape.
Event organiser Anton de Waal says that the highlight of the event was breaking two records. “The event raised R650 000 in one day, the most it has ever raised in its six-year history, and R100 000 more than last year’s record.”
Secondly, athlete AJ Calitz was back this year to break his existing record of 12 summits up Platteklip Gorge, and in so doing also set a new Guinness World Record! After completing 14.5 summits, which came to a total of height of 11 020m climbed, he can lay claim to the record for the “greatest vertical height climbing stairs in 12 hours”. Well done, AJ!
A further congrats goes to the Cableway’s own team for participating, and to family and friends who supported the athletes on the day.
