Your Cableway online ticket guide: all you need to know

Your Cableway online ticket guide: all you need to know

Your online Cableway ticket questions answered in our easy-to-use guide!

We’re always telling our visitors to book their Cableway tickets online, but what exactly does that entail?

Do you have to bring a printout of your online ticket? Can you use it for a different time slot? Can you get a refund if you don’t use it? So many questions, so little time.

To help you make the most of this superconvenient facility on your next visit to Table Mountain, our New7Wonder of Nature, we put together a useful online ticket guide answering the following questions:

What is an online Cableway ticket?

An online Cableway ticket is one that can be purchased via our website. Buying an online ticket helps you skip the Ticket Office queue and allows you to join the fast moving ticketholders' queue at the Cableway.

Where do I buy the online ticket?

You can purchase online tickets via our website.

What is the difference between the morning and afternoon ticket?

A morning ticket is valid from 8am to 1pm and an afternoon ticket is valid from 1pm until the last car down, weather permitting. Choose the ticket that corresponds with the time you want to visit the Cableway.

What is the difference between a one-way up or down ticket and a return ticket?

Much like a train or plane ticket, a one-way fare is for a single cable-car ride up or down Table Mountain, while a return ticket is for a two-way trip.

Which queue do I join with my online ticket when I arrive at the Cableway?

Please look out for the green sign marked "ticketholders" and join that one.

Do I get to skip the queue with my online ticket?

You will join our fast moving ticketholders’ queue on arrival. On days following ones where the Cableway has been closed due to adverse weather, this ticketholders' queue may be long, so please plan accordingly.

Can I show my online ticket on my mobile phone to be scanned at the gate?

Yes, online tickets can be scanned from your mobile phone.

If I’ve booked a morning ticket, can I use it for the afternoon instead?

Morning tickets must please be used between 8am and 1pm. If you would like to visit in the afternoon, please request a refund and book for the afternoon slot.

What happens if the Cableway is closed on the day of my visit?

Your online ticket is valid for seven days from the day of your booked visit, so please use it on the next open day within that week.

I’ve missed my visit date. Can I get a refund?

Tickets can be refunded within the seven-day validity period. Please email for assistance.

Why can I buy a Sunset Special ticket online but not the Seniors and Students Specials?

The Seniors and Students special online booking functionality is not operational at this stage. Please bring your valid SA ID or student card to our Ticket Office on Fridays to purchase your discounted ticket.

Is the free Birthday Special ticket available online?

The Birthday Special ticket can be applied for online and it will be emailed to you on the day of your birthday. This offer will only be available online from July 2017. To sign up for it, please click here.

Can I renew or buy a Cable Card online?

Yes, you may renew your existing Cable Card online here.

To purchase a Cable Card, please complete the application online and collect it from our Visitor Information Centre
