Cape Town's iconic Table Mountain and the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) are once again gearing up for global recognition at the esteemed World Travel Awards 2023. These awards, as described by Wahida Parker, Managing Director of TMACC, are the Oscars of the international travel and hospitality sector, representing the pinnacle of excellence in this industry.

Table Mountain and TMACC have each secured a nomination in the final round of the World Travel Awards. The public, along with tourism industry professionals, play a crucial role in deciding the winners, with their votes predominantly focusing on customer service excellence and overall experience at the attractions.

TMACC has been nominated for the World’s Leading Cable Car Ride, contending with the reigning champion, the Cable Car at Ba Na Hills in Vietnam. Table Mountain is vying for the World’s Leading Tourist Attraction against contenders that include the defending champion, Machu Picchu in Peru. Notably, Table Mountain and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in Tanzania stand as the only African representatives in this category.

Table Mountain, already a four-time recipient of the award for Leading Tourist Attraction in Africa at the World Travel Awards, is now on its fifth consecutive nomination for the World’s Leading Tourist Attraction. A victory in this category would mark its first at this global level.

The importance of public voting in this competition cannot be overstated. Each vote cast by a member of the tourism industry carries double the weight of public votes, but the collective voice of the public remains crucial in determining the outcome.
