Table Mountain Aerial Cableway
About us
Since October 4, 1929, we have been providing visitors with a world-class cableway experience when accessing Table Mountain. As the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company, we operate in a National Park and World Heritage Site. This gives our visitors a unique experience when making their way up Table Mountain. The mountain’s magnetism has a way of drawing people in, compelling them to reach the summit either by hike or by cableway. But getting to the top was not always the effortless trip it is today

The 1958 cable car had a capacity of 23 passengers, with one attendant operating the car.

The second cableway upgrade, in 1974, saw the introduction of lighter cable cars, each capable of carrying 28 people.

Apart from remodelling the restaurants and upgrading machinery, new cable cars were purchased.

The company achieved its ISO 14001 status in 2003 and again in 2009. For its environmental management system.

The 20-millionth visitor arrived on March 25, 2010, bought his ticket and, before he knew it, Table Mountain Cableway CEO Sabine Lehmann welcomed him.

The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway was abuzz with excitement as we welcomed our 24-millionth visitor, in record time, on Tuesday 20 January 2015.
The Cableway aims to provide access to Table Mountain to all South Africans. Requests for complimentary and concession tickets are considered from registered NGOs, NPOs and community organisations.

Table Mountain Aerial Cableway can provide:
- Interview opportunities
- Background information and statistics
- Fact-checking
- Images and videos of Table Mountain
- Complimentary return tickets

Interesting Facts
Many of the city’s residents have not had one of the greatest experiences in the world
More than 3.7-million people live in Cape Town, surrounded by some of the world’s most beautiful mountains and scenery. But many of the city’s residents have not had one of the greatest experiences in the world: a trip up Table Mountain, in our cable car, to visit one of the world’s New7Wonders of Nature.
Quiet times
The Cableway is generally quieter in the afternoon, so we encourage you to buy an afternoon ticket, which is valid from 13:00 onwards. A late afternoon ticket also means that you will most likely catch a glimpse of the sun setting over the Mother City.

2020
Since 1998, we have accepted several awards and accolades for the work we do as the Table Mountain Cableway. Below is a look at our achievements, starting in 1998 to the present times:
