Our awe-inspiring experience with the Table Mountain Cableway’s free audio tours

Breathtaking views from the top of Table Mountain.

Our amazing Cableway day out started on the foothills of Table Mountain at the Lower Tafelberg Road parking lot where we hopped on board the free park and ride shuttle to the Lower Cable Station. My colleague and I were told about two free audio map tours that will provide all sorts of interesting titbits of information about the Cableway and Table Mountain, a New 7 Wonder of Nature. As the free shuttle made its way up to the Lower Cable Station, we downloaded the apps from the Google Play and Apple App Stores respectively in no time. We were all set for our adventure.

The VoiceMap Audio Tours app is the perfect companion to join you on your journey at various tourist attractions. There were two audio tour options available for Table Mountain; one is a tour of the Lower Cable Station and the other is a tour of the top of Table Mountain. After activating the location setting on our mobile devices, the app picked up our exact location. The audio file uses the location information from the phone to guide you to check points along Table Mountain's various pathways.

The audio tour for the Upper Cable Station is mapped out as a circular route along the edges of the summit. The checkpoints all have interesting facts and amazing stories that kept us entertained and engaged throughout our walk along the path. When we dared to go “off the beaten track” an older Morgan Freeman-like voice promptly warned us that we were losing our way. As Cape Town locals, listening to the fun facts and stories as told by the Cableway’s green team members were inspiring and gave us a thirst to learn more about Table Mountain and the surrounding areas as seen from the summit of the mountain.

Adding the VoiceMap Audio Tours apps to your Cableway is a must-do!

Assisted by knowledgeable voice guides, we were able to spend a beautiful and educational day on top of Africa’s wonder of nature and a World Heritage Site.
