Romantic things to do on Table Mountain

Out of date ideas? Not sure where the perfect place is to make a declaration of love? Wherever you are in Cape Town, all you have to do is look up and you will find the answer to your question.
A glorious sentinel watching over the Mother City, Table Mountain is irresistible to everyone who sees her.

Get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and make your next date a trip up the Cableway. The top of the mountain is one of the most romantic places in Cape Town.

Surprise your date and set the tone of your experience with tickets to the cable car. The ride is a great experience, with a rotating platform in the car giving you a 360 degree view of the cityscape.
If it's an early-morning date, we suggest breakfast at the Table Mountain Café, then heading off for a stroll on the summit. There are a number of viewing decks with panoramic views of the city, including the sacred circle.

Showing off your knowledge of Table Mountain is sure to impress your date. Use our handy Quick Tips as a guide.

Take your date on a short walk to find the plaque commemorating members of the Mountain Club of South Africa (MCSA) who died during World War I, or Maclear’s Beacon, a stone cairn built on the highest point of Table Mountain, 1 086m above sea level. Constructed by Sir Thomas Maclear in 1865, the beacon was used to help measure the curvature of the Earth.

It can get chilly on top of the mountain so, instead of flowers, buy your date a beanie or a scarf from the Shop at the Top. These items will be a momento of your time on the summit of the mountain.

The top of the mountain is big enough for you to find your own little spot to enjoy the views and fynbos, and if you are lucky you may spot a dassie or an Agama lizard.

If you chose to visit late afternoon or early evening, be sure to bring your camera with you. There are many photo opportunities – from the sun setting, to your date at different vantage points on the mountain and, of course, selfies. Buy a bottle of bubbly at the Café if you are about to make a declaration of love, propose, or just want to enjoy a sundowner. The perfect time to open the bottle is when the fiery sun appears to slip into the Atlantic Ocean, casting a golden glow over the mountain.
