Annual Maintenance Closure: What You Need to Know

  Return to blog

Table Mountain Aerial Cableway closes for annual maintenance from Monday, 28 July to Sunday, 3 August 2025.

During this time, all operational and commercial facilities at the Top and Lower Station will be closed to the public.

With the cable cars being out of commission, hikers and trail runners need to plan for a return hike.

While the Cableway might not be operational during this period, Table Mountain will remain open for hikers, walkers, and cyclists.

Here are some hiking safety tips:

  • Plan ahead: Know your route, tell someone your plans, and start early to avoid being out after dark.
  • Weather awareness: Conditions can change rapidly. Check the weather and be ready for sudden changes. Dress for all conditions and carry a space blanket for extra safety.
  • Carry essentials: water, snacks, sunscreen, power bank, and a space blanket
  • Stay on marked paths
  • Save emergency contact numbers on your phone
  • Make sure your phone is fully charged before you hike
