Cableway closes for 7-week Annual Maintenance Shutdown

  Return to blog

Table Mountain Cableway is closed for Annual Maintenance as of Monday, 15 July to Sunday, 1 September 2024. We will re-open, weather permitting on Monday, 2 September 2024.

This extended closure is in line with our maintenance schedule, in accordance with international standards.

Visitors, please note: The Cableway, along with all commercial and public outlets (shops, restaurants, and ablution facilities) and operations at both the Upper and Lower Stations are closed to the public for the duration of our annual maintenance peiod.

Hikers, please note: Table Mountain is still accessible to hikers. Most of the routes and walkways are still accessible, and you can still climb to the summit. However, the hiking trails directly under the pathway of the cables are closed due to extensive work happening overhead.

Hikers should be mindful of weather conditions when embarking on a hike up Table Mountain, knowing that they would have to hike down.

Tafelberg Road is closed to the public for the duration of our annual maintenance period.

Birthday Special: South Africans, if your birthday falls within our 2024 annual maintenance period, you can collect your birthday tickets during the month September 2024. Please bring along your valid SA ID document, driver’s licence or birth certificate (inclusive of an SA ID number) to prove that you have celebrated your birthday during the seven-week shutdown.

Cable Card holders, if your card is valid during our 2024 annual maintenance period it will automatically be extended by seven weeks.
