Celebrating Foster Mothers This Women’s Month

  Return to blog

This Women’s Month, we at Table Mountain Aerial Cableway we chose to celebrate some of South Africa’s true heroines foster mothers.

The idea came after Mandela Day, when we welcomed foster children from Home from Home to the mountain. It was a joyful day, joined by Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis, filled with laughter and wonder. Watching those children experience the magic of Table Mountain reminded us of something very important: behind every child stands a foster mother who makes it all possible.

That’s when we decided August should be about them the women who give children a safe home, a warm meal, and the love they need to grow. These mothers are not often in the spotlight, but their impact is powerful. They share what little they have, guide children through difficult times, and pass down values that last for generations. Because of them, children finish school, find jobs, and build a better future always carrying with them the memory of a home filled with love.

As our Managing Director, Wahida Parker, said so beautifully:

“For us at Table Mountain, celebrating Women’s Month meant celebrating the real women of South Africa. Not celebrities or public figures, but women whose compassion and resilience form the true backbone of our families and our communities. We are not only honoured but deeply humbled to be in the presence of such remarkable women.”

To honour these mothers, we created a special day just for them. They enjoyed the breathtaking views from the mountain, moments of peace and reflection, fun virtual reality tours, and shared laughter over refreshments. More than anything, we wanted them to walk away knowing that they are seen, appreciated, and celebrated.

Wahida Parker reminded us all:

“We see you. We see the difference you make. We see the children you uplift and the futures you create. Today, and always, we honour you.”

Throughout August, foster mothers from different organisations joined us on Table Mountain. Each visit was filled with warmth and gratitude, and each one reminded us why these women are the true heartbeat of our communities.

At TMACC, we are proud to celebrate them, not only this Women’s Month but always. They carry the spirit of Ubuntu kindness, resilience, and love values that lie at the very heart of South Africa.

Because when we honour our foster mothers, we honour the future of our nation.
