Our Annual Maintenance Shutdown Returns in 2022

  Return to blog

Our annual maintenance shutdown returns in 2022. This being the first since 2019.

To ensure a thorough inspection and maintenance - Table Mountain Aerial Cableway will be shutting down for a 5 week period.

From 25 July until 28 August 2022, rides on the Cableway will be closed for maintenance to meet the global cableway standards according to the Swiss Governing Body for Cableways (BAV).

“We take the safety of all visitors at the cableway seriously, and the maintenance shutdown reflects our commitment to ensure the best experience possible for all visitors. By consistently taking the necessary steps, we can continue to attract and safely move thousands of tourists to the top of the mountain,” says Wahida Parker, Managing Director at TMACC.

The following tasks will be conducted:

- Shifting the 4 track-ropes (the thick cables carrying the weight of the cars) to eliminate the most stressed sections sitting on the supports at the Lower Station

- Replacing the loadbearing brackets from which Cabin 1 is suspended. These are done out of sequence with brackets on Cabin 2

- Overhauling the hydraulic brake system in the Lower Station Plant room

- Annual servicing of the Variable Frequency Drives controlling the speed of the main electric motor for the cable car

In the meantime:

- Hikers and mountain climbers can still enjoy the beauty of Table Mountain by making your own way to the top and back down.

- All visitors who celebrate their birthday during this year’s extended Shutdown period will be able to collect and use their Free Birthday ticket until the end of September 2022

- Our TAP Bar will continue to operate during the period of shutdown.

- Please be advised that from Monday onwards, Table Mountain Café will be under construction and closed until further notice.

- Facilities at the top and lower station are still open for snacks and drinks.

Keep an eye out for more information in the upcoming weeks!
