On Saturday, November 16, 2024, we hosted our annual #TakeAHikeDay, an event designed to clean up one the Table Mountain’s hiking trails.

The event kicked off early, at 06h30, with an impressive 223 participants who checked in at Platteklip Gorge. These hikers were not only ready to explore the beautiful mountain but were also determined to contribute to its conservation by picking up litter along the way. Several hikers opted for other hiking routes and bought their trash from these routes to the Top Station too (they had registered for #TakeAHikeDay).

Some of the odd items collected included a Tupperware type of cake holder, shoes, clothing items as well as part of the insulation covers of cables collected below the powerlines. Most trash collected were plastic bottles and wrappers.

A total of 58,78kg of trash was collected on #TakeAHikeDay.

Several hikers took to social media to express their appreciation for the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway's efforts in organizing #TakeAHikeDay. Some participants even questioned their decision to tackle the hike (jokingly), but ultimately felt a sense of accomplishment and pride in contributing to the clean-up effort.
