#SALockdown level 3: hiking up Table Mountain – what you need to know

It’s finally happening – the Table Mountain National Park trails are open for hiking and exercise in level 3 of the national lockdown.
Our tourism partner South African National Parks (SANParks) made the announcement on its social media platforms on Monday 1 June 2020:
Hey visitors, we welcome you back to your beloved Table Mountain National Park. We know it must have been challenging but it is a pleasure to have you back.#StaySafe #SAWillTravelSoon #SANParks #LiveYourWild

Please ensure that you wear your face masks and maintain a social distance of at least 1.5m when undertaking recreational activities.

As per alert level 3 lockdown regulations, you are permitted to exercise between 06:00am and 18:00pm.
Table Mountain management humbly request adhere to this very important lockdown regulation. No overnight hiking will be permitted in the park. #StaySafe #SAWillTravelSoon #SANParks #LiveYourWild

Some important things to note before you hit the trails:
- The Cableway has NOT reopened. That means most of our restaurants and shops are not open either.
- The Cableway is offering a special one way down hikers' service on weekends, available between 8am and 3pm.
- Please do not litter. As our staff are not on site regularly to empty the bins on top of the mountain, we ask that you please take all your refuse down with you
- Adhere to the necessary regulations: maintain social distancing, wear your face mask and do not hike in groups
- Be safe: remember to take enough water, sunscreen, and a charged cellphone in case of emergency, along on your hike
