This Women's Month, we're celebrating the Wonder Women who perform miracles behind-the-scenes at the Cableway to make your experience of Table Mountain - our African Wonder of Nature - incredible. This week, we introduce our super event planner, Taryn Skuce, to you!

A resident of Ruyterwacht, Taryn started out as a receptionist in 2000 and steadily worked her way up until she was appointed as the company's event planner in 2017.

We sat down with her to chat about her awe-inspiring role at the Cableway and her love for our mountain.

Please tell us about your new position?

My current position as the event planner is much the same as my previous position, which was coordinating events for the Cableway. I started concentrating on events on 1 August 2017.

How did this position become available in your department?

With an increase in incentive-based travel, the Food & Beverage department needed to add a dedicated event planner.

According to Wesgro, a new record has been achieved at Cape Town International Airport due to a 20% year-on-year increase in international passengers.

The number of overseas tourists to Cape Town in 2017 (2, 7 million) increased by 7.2% compared to the previous year and this year. The World Travel & Tourism Council forecasts that tourism will go up by approximately 3% in 2018.

How many events have we hosted at the Cableway in the past year (2017 to 2018)?

We had 123 booked events in 2017, with 28 being cancelled due to strong winds.  Between January and July of this year, we have already had an increase in events - 91 to be exact, with cancellations totaling 21 to date for 2018.

How many of these were weddings?

The summit, with its spectacular views of the Mother City, is the ultimate romantic wedding venue. We hosted three weddings at the Table Mountain summit over the past year.

Which Cableway venue is the most popular?

The Twelve Apostles Terrace remains the most popular summer sunset event space.  It's the ideal area for groups to enjoy a glass of MCC and watch the sunset.
