Table Mountain Cableway to host 2016 K-Way Platteklip Charity Challenge
The ultimate endurance test is back! The K-Way Platteklip Charity Challenge returns to the Cableway for its 2016 edition on Saturday, 23 April 2016.
This year 200 ardent athletes will compete against other fit runners to see how many times they can summit Table Mountain via Platteklip Gorge – all in the name of charity.
Battling potentially hazardous weather conditions and extremely competitive fellow runners, the Challenge participants will need to cover laps of 5.5km each and 760 metres of climbing. Each lap will take around two hours to complete.
A relay race in essence, runners will take the route up Platteklip Gorge (which includes 800 double-sized steps over a distance of 2.1km).
There’ll be a brief stop for rest and refreshments before the eager athletes need to run to the Upper Cable Station, catch a ride down in our revolving cable cars and run back to the start.
With a staggering R650 000 raised for the South African Education and Environment Project (SAEP) last year, the race is on to attract more big-hearted contestants to participate. SAEP will once again be this year’s beneficiary.
Keen to enter the 2016 K-Way Platteklip Challenge? You can do so in one of two ways:
- Do it solo and beat last year’s winner: Think you have what it takes to beat 2015 winner AJ Calitz's impressive 11 summits score? Register for the Challenge here.
- Feel the team spirit and enter the corporate challenge: There is no I in TEAM so how about rounding up five of your work mates and entering to compete against other companies for a floating trophy and the most laps per team. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to enter your team!
Wait, there's more! You can win an amazing Cable Card worth R565 which gives you year-round access to Table Mountain. All you need to do is tag the Cableway (@TableMountainCa) and the K-Way Platteklip Challenge (@platteklipcc) in your photos on Twitter throughout the day.
