The 2016 K-Way Platteklip Challenge was a huge success.

Following a mighty storm that attacked Cape Town the day before, many participants in and organisers of the 2016 K-Way Platteklip Charity Challenge worried how the storm would affect the event on Saturday 23 April 2016. But they needn’t have – the sunny autumn day was a huge success.

The challenge saw participants really pull out all the stops for goodwill, and R870 000 was raised for the South African Education and Environment Project. A whopping 658 laps were completed in 11 hours!

The Cableway joined the charitable experience, too, with one of our team members, Ismail Dollie, really getting into the swing of things by posting selfies throughout the day.

Having completed four summits of Table Mountain during this, his first Platteklip Charity Challenge, Dollie was elated: “My first Platteklip challenge experience was gruelling, hot, cold, wet and filled with aches ... but so worth it.”

The overall winner was reigning champion AJ Calitz, who completed 11 summits, achieving his fastest in 37 minutes. Chantel Neinaber, in a wonderful display of girl power, rocked nine summits, with her fastest completed in 44-and-a-half minutes.

The challenge is a family event, and this year’s youngest participant was 10-year-old Luke Jordan, who impressed everyone with five summits.

Here are some photos of the day:
