5 Fantastic images of the 2015 K-Way Platteklip Charity Challenge

They battled a strenuous hike up Table Mountain, our wonder of nature, in cool weather conditions to complete numerous summits, all in the name of charity … Let’s give a round of social media applause and likes for the courageous participants of the 2015 K-Way Platteklip Charity Challenge!

The event, held on Saturday 25 April 2015, saw these brave and generous men, women and children hike up the popular Platteklip Gorge hiking trail, race across the mountaintop and take the Cable Car down to Tafelberg Road to start the process over – again and again. (The Platteklip Gorge trail is 3km from bottom to top, but the hike is a physically demanding “moderate to tough” route that takes between one and three or more hours to complete.)

The day was a roaring success, and a staggering R650 000 was raised for the South African Education and Environment Project (SAEP).

Competition was fierce and team Juta proved their hiking skills are as good as their publishing skills  by claiming the corporate division title with an impressive 15 summits. Andrew Stuart and Jacques Foce tied for individual second place with 10 summits each on the day. Top honours was taken by the unstopable AJ Calitz, the 2014 winner, who racked up a record 11 summits.

With the Table Mountain Cableway generously offering a Cable Card, valued at R535 to the most active Instagram participant for posting a selfie during their challenge summits, images streamed in on our platforms. The winning entry by Iger Rebecca Barbara appealed to us because of her upbeat spirit, despite the challenging adventure she was having.
