Art for the world to see
Table Mountain Aerial Cableway is calling for proposals from local artists for the new design of the two murals at the Lower Cable Station, an area visited by over 800 000 people each year.
The company, that celebrates 79 years of operation this month, will unveil the new murals in October 2009 to coincide with their 80th birthday celebrations.
“We are delighted to provide an opportunity for South African artists to represent their talents. It is also a chance for them to be seen by local and international visitors during the 2010 World Cup period,” said Lehmann.
The Cableway invites all South African artists, including those at art schools and art centres to submit proposals by January 31, 2009. The chosen artist’s work will be displayed until October 2011.
The existing murals were completed in 2007 and the Cableway plans to hold this competition every two years to keep the murals fresh and contemporary.
