Cableway welcomes its 24-millionth visitor in record time
The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway was abuzz with excitement as we welcomed our 24-millionth visitor, in record time, on Tuesday 20 January 2015.
It has taken us just one year to get from 23-million visitors in January 2014 to 24-million this month. Our previous milestone visitor was Thamsanqa Welcome Peter from Port Elizabeth.
The 24-million visitor mark was reached in just 12 months and two weeks, breaking the record set last year of 14 months to reach another million. It took the Cableway, which opened in 1929, 28 years to reach the million mark in 1957.
Marketing manager Collette van Aswegen has been monitoring ticket sales over the past few weeks to get an idea of when we would reach the milestone.
“We are very excited to have reached 24-million visitors at the Cableway in such a short time. Here’s to many more millions of local and international guests,” says Collette.
Maria and Helvio are enjoying the first week of their two-week visit to Cape Town, and a cable car ride up Table Mountain was at the top of their Mother City bucket list.
The lucky couple received a goodie box filled with Cableway merchandise and sweet treats from the Shop at the Top, free cable car tickets, a Table Mountain Café voucher and T-shirts. Maria also received a certificate stating her special visitor status.
“Winning this incredible prize and honour feels great! What an amazing surprise on our first visit to Cape Town and the Cableway. Thanks guys!” said an ecstatic Maria.
Well done, Maria!
